The project, which has been co-created and executive produced by the media mogul and the Duke of Sussex, is set to explore issues of mental health and emotional wellbeing by focusing on the personal stories of high-profile people, reports The Hollywood Reporter.
According to a press release shared on Monday, the multi-part series will see the two stars guiding ‘honest discussions about mental health and emotional well-being while opening up about their mental health journeys and struggles’.
‘Now more than ever, there is an immediate need to replace the shame surrounding mental health with wisdom, compassion, and honesty,’ a statement from Winfrey reads in the release. ‘Our series aims to spark that global conversation.’
The multi-part series is set to feature a celebrity line-up including, Lady Gaga and Glenn Close, as well as mental health advocate and speaker Zak Williams, Olympic boxer Virginia ‘Ginny’ Fuchs, celebrity chef Rashad Armstead.
The project will be titled, The Me You Can’t See, and will premiere on May 21 on Apple TV+.
The Duke of Sussex has announced he is partnering with the television mogul to create and produce a mental health documentary series for Apple TV which will launch in 2020.
Kensington Palace said the multi-part series, which has been in the works for a few months, will focus on mental illness as well as ‘mental wellness’ and will aim to inspire viewers to discuss mental health conditions and what we need to do to thrive openly.
‘I truly believe that good mental health – mental fitness – is the key to powerful leadership, productive communities and a purpose-driven self,’ the Duke of Sussex said in a statement. ‘It is a huge responsibility to get this right as we bring you the facts, the science and the awareness of a subject that is so relevant during these times.

‘Our hope is that this series will be positive, enlightening and inclusive – sharing global stories of unparalleled human spirit fighting back from the darkest places, and the opportunity for us to understand ourselves and those around us better. I am incredibly proud to be working alongside Oprah on this vital series which we have been developing together for several months.’
Prince Harry, along with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, has long been an advocate for reducing the stigma surrounding mental health conditions and encouraging a more open conversation around an issue which affects so many people.
In 2017, he launched Heads Together through the Royal Foundation and he has also spoken publicly about his own mental health, including when he had to seek support and therapy after struggling himself.
Aside from Winfrey’s gravitas in the television world, the businesswoman is also a spokesperson for mental wellness, regularly touching on it in her Super Soul Conversations series. She too has discussed how conditions including clinical depression and schizophrenia have affected ‘several people close’ to her and encouraged the need for speaking openly about mental health.
Winfrey was invited to attend the royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in May and later described it as a ‘cultural moment’ and an event which left her feeling like ‘anything is possible through the power love’.
She has also spent time with Meghan’s mother Doria Ragland, who she invited to her house last year and gifted a basket of kumquats!
